I received a Take Me Somewhere graduate residency which will take place this August (at Tramway). During this time. I will engage with a new movement research titled Oh look! I'm leaking: dysmorphia into metamorphosis. This research is informed by site-specific writing explorations, my experience of body dysmorphia and eating disorders as well as my recent performance Oh to be a snail.

This residency is dedicated to researching a new method of moving and to developing a new choreographic performance. Having struggled with eating disorders and body dysmorphia, I have felt trapped in my body and my obsession of its strict external image has distracted me from the plentifulness that poured inside, pooling in the hollow of my palate. This project is a joyous slipping-in.
I intend to explore movement as a form of escapism - not to escape out of our bodies but to escape deep within. I want to embrace the transformative quality of our leaky, fleshy, fatty bodies to explore everything the body can become - its delicious metamorphosis. I'm inspired by the following words from Hijikata Tastumi: “Why not try drinking the water from a well inside your own flesh? How about setting up a step-ladder in your own bodies and descending within?” and Legacy Russell:“Skin is as much about what is kept in as what it keeps out. As skin wraps, covers, protects, it paradoxically wounds, occupies, and builds worlds. We want new skin."
